Terms of Service
Effective: May 2, 2026·Canonical English version.
1. Who we are
“Playthread,” “we,” “us,” or “our” refers to an individual sole developer based in Ukraine, operating the “Playthread” brand, the entity that operates the Playthread service (the “Service”). The Service is an interactive-fiction product that lets you generate stories, scenes, images, and audio with the assistance of large language models and other AI providers.
By creating an account, signing in, or using the Service in any way (including as a guest), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.
- You confirm you have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement and that doing so does not violate any law applicable to you.
- The Service is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect data from users under 18; see the Privacy Policy for how we handle this.
3. Accounts and guest mode
You can use a limited version of the Service without an account. To unlock additional features or persist your stories across devices, you must create an account through our identity provider, Clerk. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account.
If you sign in while a guest session has stories attached to it, those stories will be transferred to your account on first sign-in from the same browser. Stories cannot be re-claimed by a different account once a guest session has been claimed.
4. Subscriptions and billing
Paid plans are not currently offered. Playthread does not take payments at this time, and there is no live checkout flow. If we have granted you paid access manually, no money has changed hands and these billing terms do not apply.
When paid plans become available, billing will be processed through a third-party payment provider whose terms and privacy notice will apply to the transaction in addition to these Terms. We will update this section with the specific provider, refund window, cancellation mechanics, and tax handling at that time. Material changes will be announced in accordance with section 14.
Our anticipated refund posture is summarised on the Refund Policy page.
5. Your content and prompts
“Your Content” means anything you submit to the Service: world descriptions, choices, free-text actions, story feedback, and similar inputs. You retain whatever rights you have in Your Content.
You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, transmit, modify (only to the extent technically necessary), display privately to you, and process Your Content for the sole purpose of operating, securing, and improving the Service — including sending it to AI providers in order to generate scenes, images, and audio for you. This license ends when you delete the relevant content, except where retention is needed for backups, legal compliance, abuse prevention, or anonymized analytics.
We do not sell Your Content, and we do not use it to train our own foundation models. AI providers we use may have their own policies; we choose providers and tiers that contractually disallow training on customer data where reasonably available.
6. AI-generated output
The Service generates fictional narration, choices, images, and audio using third-party AI providers. Output is generated on demand, may be inaccurate, may resemble existing works by coincidence, and is provided as fiction only. You should not rely on it as advice of any kind (medical, legal, psychological, financial, safety) and you should independently verify any factual statement before acting on it.
We make no representation that AI output is original or free from infringement of third-party rights. To the maximum extent permitted by law, you use AI-generated output at your own risk.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- create or share content that sexualizes, exploits, or endangers minors;
- produce content that is illegal, defamatory, or that incites real-world violence against a person or identifiable group;
- attempt to extract system prompts, jailbreak the model, or coerce the Service into acting as something other than a fiction engine;
- impersonate another person, infringe their rights, or harass them through the Service;
- probe, scrape, scan, or stress-test the Service, or interfere with other users’ access;
- use the Service to develop a competing product, or to train another model on its output;
- resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the Service or its output.
We may remove content, throttle, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these rules, with or without notice depending on severity.
8. Limits, fair use, and availability
Each tier has documented daily and monthly usage limits. We may further throttle individual accounts that materially exceed normal usage, or whose activity threatens the stability of the Service.
We strive for high availability but do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Scheduled maintenance, AI provider outages, and other events outside our reasonable control may cause downtime or degraded output.
9. Intellectual property in the Service
The Service’s code, design, branding, prompts, and infrastructure are owned by us or our licensors. Nothing in these Terms transfers any of those rights to you. You may not copy, reverse engineer, or repackage the Service.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty arising out of course of dealing or usage of trade.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we and our suppliers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption, arising out of or related to the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or fifty (50) United States dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations on liability; in those jurisdictions the limitations apply only to the extent permitted.
12. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of (a) Your Content, (b) your use of the Service, or (c) your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if continued service would expose us or other users to material risk, or if we are required to do so by law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law) do.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Effective” date above reflects the latest version. For material changes we will provide reasonable notice in the Service or by email. Continued use after the new version takes effect is acceptance of the new version.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ukraine, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The courts located in Kyiv, Ukraine have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute that is not subject to mandatory arbitration or consumer-protection rules of your residence.
If any clause is held unenforceable, the rest of these Terms remain in effect.
